This piece had me wondering what the opposite of a boredom generator is - a surprise machine? Surprise is actually genuinely interesting and hard to achieve because it needs to connect in some way to what you believe - random things are not surprising. Old text about surprises here: https://unpredictablepatterns.substack.com/p/unpredictable-patterns-92-on-surprises — but this has made me think I may need to write a new one.

The importance of autonomy cannot be over-emphasized. Balance between what is thought to be known and change is never easy. In educational settings, the process of scaffolding helps bring about change that promotes thought and brings a new understanding of the old which was believed. Thank you Harry. Good thoughts.

Really liked this framing! Have been thinking about this recently as I've become bored/annoyed with a lot of content recommendations lately

Thanks Metin - I also think part of it is a catalogue depth issue, though not completely!
