We educators beat the calculator-AI analogy to death early on in 2023 and got a lot of conceptual utility out of it. You are right --- predictions do have real force on the ground. Predictions have affective force in particular. Can't wait for the analysis of science fiction. Have you read McEwan's Machines Like Me? One of the more interesting AI sci-fi books in recent year.
